YOLO … Newmarket, England

So, here it is…My first ever blog post!

I’ve been dreaming about my trip for over a year and I cannot believe that I am finally within sight of my departure. I’ve resigned from my job (although I’m still at work until 15th December), I’ve booked my first couple of months travel, booked to get my jabs and organised my leaving party (obvs!). I still don’t think that this is all going to hit me until I am sat on a plane to Delhi in January but I am sure that this is absolutely the right thing for me at this moment in my life.

You’re probably wondering what precipitated such a drastic, life-changing decision especially when I finally have a great job and have found a wonderful place to live with amazing friends?! The answer is that two particular women inspired me to do this. The first amazing woman very sadly and suddenly passed away at the age of 60 and unexpectedly left me a sum of money. Although it’s not a life changing sum it was the most incredible gift and I felt obliged to use it to do something that would make her proud. She was a very independent woman and well travelled and I felt that using the money to travel and have amazing experiences would be the most fitting tribute I could make to her.

The second person is a good friend of mine who is only in her early thirties but has been battling cancer on and off for nearly seven years. Although, like most people my life has been touched by this insidious disease in the past, I’d never really seen it at close quarters. Seeing this girl handle her illness with such bravery, class and honesty and not let it define or control her has been truly awe inspiring. She probably doesn’t know it but she’s really helped me to put my own life in to perspective, to start living and to stop sweating the small stuff.

So there you have it. My new motto is YOLO, You Only Live Once and you need to make the most of every day…I might have taken it a bit far but my other motto is “If you’re going to do something then do it properly” LOL
